LIVING OUT / THURSDAY 3 OCTOBER / 10.00AM-4.30PM / COVENANT CHURCH
Living Out wants to help churches understand how we can better help those who experience same-sex attraction to stay faithful to Biblical teaching on sexual ethics and flourish at the same time. On our LOCAL (Living Out Churches And Leaders) Course we will show you why many churches fail – but how the Bible wonderfully meets the challenges we all face.
The course will offer a positive biblical vision and practical steps forward as we seek to model both grace and truth in our Christ-like love for all those who experience same-sex attraction.
The Living Out team will share their insight and stories as same-sex attracted Christians who hold to traditional Bible teaching on sexual ethics and who have spoken and written on this subject widely.
Living Out is delighted to be bringing you this day of training in association with the Southampton Christian Network and the Evangelical Alliance.

BREAKFAST CLUB - IS YOUR CHURCH ABLE TO HELP?
In late 2018 when the Saturday morning Breakfast Club dropped down to only three churches, Life Church volunteered to fill the gap in 2019 by hosting Breakfast Club for two Saturdays a month for the year.
We would like to invite other churches in Southampton to pick up the hosting and running of one of these two Saturday morning Breakfast Clubs (either the first or second Saturday of the month).
We'd love to help another church to set-up a Saturday morning team, and can offer to help by:
- Inviting potential members of any new church's team to come along to any of the remaining BCs in 2019 to see how we do it
- Offering our BC Leaders to meet a team from another church to help plan the set up and logistics
- Providing some team members for the first few months of 2020 to come to another church to help serve and transition well
- Coming to another churches meeting (sunday or another time) to share about Breakfast club, answer questions and pray with you.
- Provide training for kitchen staff, and advice for other team members.
If you can help please email james@scn.org.uk
SOUTHAMPTON STREET SUPPORT
Call for churches to open their doors to those sleeping rough
Sleeping on the streets is rough so churches around the city are making plans to open their buildings to those sleeping rough this winter. It follows a city-wide partnership commitment to end the need for rough sleeping in the city. The Street Support partnership believes that ‘No-one deserves to live a life on the streets. We believe they deserve better.’
The churches winter shelter will form part of a wider provision of beds to reduce rough sleeping in the city. Last year, over 30 organisations signed a Southampton Rough Sleeping and Begging Charter which said “Our vision is for Southampton to be a city where no one needs to sleep rough or beg. To achieve this, the Street Support partnership are inviting other businesses, organisations and faith communities to join with them in tackling the problem.

FINANCE TRUSTEE NEEDED FOR CHARITY CRY
Care and Relief for the Young (CRY) is a charity that helps local churches in developing countries work to transform the lives of the poorest of the poor young people in their communities.  Based in the offices of Kings Community Church we have a turnover in the region of £1m which includes the sales of our eight shops.
We are currently looking for a Finance Trustee to join our Board of Trustees to help guide and advise us on financial matters. We have a dedicated Finance Manager and so this role is to help oversee the financial work of our charity, not to be involved in the day to day running of the finance department.
CRY trustees meet about five or six times a year in the evening at Hedge End. We are looking for someone who would have a passion for helping the charity provide for the needy children in our world and who has experience of financial controls – i.e. an accountant.   Preferably we would like someone with an understanding of charity finance, pensions and legal requirements but this is not essential.
If you are interested in learning more then please contact CRY’s Chair of Trustees, Ian Chiddle, at ian.chiddle@btinternet.com .Thank you so much for your interest.
FORMATION SCHOOL
Do you long to see people better equipped to help others grow as Christians? Do you want key leaders to learn how to lead well in today's context? Would you love your small groups to be more effective in reaching people who are not yet Christians? Formation School is here to help by equipping people for making disciples, leadership and mission.
Formation School is a weekly course run by Living Leadership and Above Bar Church and a team of other local church leaders, with the aim of 'Growing leaders who make disciples' in the local church. We have had students from a wide range of local churches over the last 8 years, and are now taking applications for the 2019-20 course which will begin in September, meeting on Tuesday evenings and 6 Saturdays throughout the academic year.
If you would like to find out more, a member of the team would be very willing to visit your church to talk further about the course, or even come along to one of your groups e.g. 20-30s group. See www.formationschool.org for more details  (including FAQs for church leaders and potential students) or contact Ruth Norbury on info@formationschool.org.

CALLING ALL CHRISTIAN WORKERS IN SOUTHAMPTON
Transform Work UK is a national organisation that exists to help Christians impact their workplaces through the presence and activities of Christian Workplace Groups
(CWGs). See our website: www.transformworkuk.org
There are over 500 CWGs nationally that span every professional and sector group however Southampton has few known groups. We would like to see that change.  If you are part of a Christian Work Group or would like to start one please contact matt.aldridge@transformworkuk.org for more information. We would love to pray and support you and your group.
ESTHER PRAYER
For those of you who haven't heard already, the monthly Esther Prayer meetings to pray for our city have now stopped.
Simon Orton led these prayer meetings for the last 5 years and they have been a very rich source of prayer, worship and blessing; we are deeply grateful to Simon for his leadership and for all that God has done through these times together.
We had been asking the Lord for a few months if it was right to continue with Esther Prayer, but in the light of Simon's wife Fiona going home to be with the Lord in April, and his subsequent time off to restore his batteries it became right on several fronts to bring this meeting to a close.
DOES YOUR HOUSE NEED SITTING OVER THE SUMMER?
Are you going away over the summer and would value a mature, Christian couple house sitting for you in your absence? They have recently returned from working in Zimbabwe for 10 years and are waiting to get back into their own home in Southampton. They come recommended and would even care for any pets you have to leave behind!
Please contact: Sue Hutchinson. 07741466762

SOUTHAMPTON HOUSE OF PRAYER (SoHOP) UPDATE:
When we were praying about this theme, one of the team had a picture of someone reaching up and God’s hand reaching down to help them up and out of trouble.
This is God’s heart for Southampton, particularly at this time. He WANTS to help.
We believe that in our personal prayers we will encounter God deeper, especially where we feel we need God’s particular help.
We also believe our prayers for the city will be energised by the revelation that God is an ever-present help for us as a city.
Finally, we believe this is a time for responding, as God uses us to be His help to those around us.
Since January this year, Southampton House of Prayer has been open every Saturday between 9am and 6pm. People from across the city are dropping in to spend some time in prayer.
